A late '80s Casio keyboard with a nifty gimmick: digital sampling through a built-in microphone (or optional external mike or line-in), allowing you to capture sounds and play them as a voice on the keyboard. Its own instrument voices are digitally sampled as well, giving a more realistic but also more cheesy sound than my PT-100, but it has the same kitschy video-game-like percussion effects.

  • You are using the sampling button incorrectly. You aren't supposed to hold it. You are supposed to tap it once and then speak into it. The keyboard starts recording once it hears the first sufficiently loud sound. The reason it "locked up" when you were trying to hum into it was because the mic was still waiting for a loud enough sound once you took your finger off the button. It clicks once the sample time has run out. RTFM.

  • I also have a mint Casio CT-101, which sounds every bit as good as a Kawai SX-240, at least as far as some of the sounds go. And it just looks great with the wooden end pieces and the colored buttons. Probably the first keyboard that uses the keys as buttons to choose sounds. It is incredibly cool.

  • Wow, new in the box. Some may say it's crap, but that's a sweet collectible. I have a Casio SA-35, and it may be cheesy as all get out, but it really does have a decent piano (with a little aliasing, yeah) but nothing is more portable for the sound. I think the SK-1 sounds better than a lot of people make out, and you can get one for about a dollar an ounce. What's to complain?

  • @runishit i would get it circuit bent, but i have neither the time, money, or patience to do it. i'm sorry but i'm not selling it because the last black key on the end is broken (but it still works), and i have Devo "Energy Dome" stickers on it.

  • @vwestlife Fuck the haters man. Dudes just mad because you scored a bad ass sampler for such a steal. This is actually motivating, it makes me want to search around harder for one..cause folks on eBay are charging way too much for these. Congrats on your find man. That's really awesome.
