Why cant I dance like this when I'm drunk???
-
@easlesonavon Ah, I can see that. I'm sure his 'fake-drunk" looked fake... Freddy always was a bit of a mannered actor.
-
@easlesonavon Wow!

@crubeo The "perfectionism" is the point. The director wanted him to appear sloppy and drunk, not perfect. He couldn't do it sober, so the director had to loosen him up. As thin as Astaire was, it wouldn't have taken that much alcohol. :)

@oliveoyl64 No kidding; and when he falls at the end, you can see that he hits his head. It looks painful!
-
@crubeo It IS true. It's in his autobiography, "Steps in Time."
-
No, it's true! I read his autobiography and two shots of bourbon I think was what he took before each take.
-
I doubt that's a true story. Astaire was a perfectionist. He would never have allowed himself to be seen 'impaired' and trying to dance. Makes a good story, though.

@DrDecibelB0rt 14 SHOTS??? How much time between takes? 3 weeks? Amazing.
After every take of this scene, Fred took two shots of whiskey. You're watching Take 7.
