And so you talk that jap version is rare. I bought it today for $2.5 (i own a famiclone with a keyboard). Brand new, at a local shop. The seller had another version, Japanese too but from a different publisher, it seems. I'm quite sure these are unaltered because we had issues with power-ups in altered versions and here there are none. Nevertheless, Ryukenden III is quite easy to find if you don't live in the US. :D Much easier than the Metal Gear for NES/Famicom. Now that is really rare!

I have the Japanese Ninja Ryukenden III. I have the 'password' menu item. But I can't enter one! As I select "Password" and press start then the game starts. How to enter them correctly? o_O

He's absolutely right though,Gaiden 3 was a BITCH and it doesn't quite make sense story wise in the beginning, but once you understand Clancy's Role and then discovering Foster is back,it all kinda makes more and more sense as it goes on. The power ups are wierd, but honestly, find the ones you remember from Gaiden 2 and it should be fine...the only one from 3 worth a damn is the Sword Extend...

Poor AVGN....if only he had the Japanese version...

@ArchonXR3 its way harder than contra 3. i easily beat contra 3 as a kid and could beat the nes one without the code but never beat the genesis one.

Sounds like the japanese knew this game would be near impossible without some revisions. As the Us version, is NEAR impossible!

@omarcuellar2 Since when was that an insult?
Dude, you're a geek. But you do have some great videos about video games. Keep it up.

The one thing you didn't mention jedite1 is that the U.S. version causes you to take double damage from ALL enemies as compared to the Japanese version
