A clawhammer banjo lesson/demonstration on the tune Tater Patch. Tuning: gDGBD (tune or capo up to A to play with a fiddler). Played on my fretless Harmony ResoTone.

From a recording of Charlie Lowe available on County Sales' Clawhammer Banjo Vol. 3. The tune seems to originate with Ike Leonard - see Andrew Kuntz's The Fiddlers Companion (http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/TA.htm) for more background information. This isn't exactly how Lowe played it, but not too far off. There is a tab avaliable in Brad Leftwich's book "Round Peak Style Clawhammer Banjo".

This tune is on my new album out end July/early August with Casey Joe Abair on fiddle, "If You Want to Go to Sleep, Go to Bed" (Yodel-Ay-Hee 074).

  • Just a follow up note to other viewers... there's a LINK (upper left corner, at the beginning of this vid) to Hunter's Instructional DVD, which I just purchased and looks to be very special indeed... and an absolute bargain, given what even one lesson would cost.

Anyway... i'm knee-deep in tatters tryin' to git 'er done so i can play this cool tune (sorta) like Hunter. Again, thanks so much... Ken.

  • @NooGods Ken, thanks very much! Enjoy the DVD!
