PLEASE SEE MY "REVISED" VERSION OF THIS SLIDESHOW. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS WATCHED THIS ORIGINAL VERSION.

Images of the 1930's Great Plains Dust Bowl and the Black Sunday Dust Storm in particular provide a chilling visual backdrop for Woody Guthrie's song "Dust Storm Disaster." PLEASE NOTE: There is a picture here of Pampa, TX on Black Sunday. Woody Guthrie was in Pampa when it happened (and may, in fact, have been in one of the buildings pictured). As he huddled with friends who thought it was the end of the world, someone said, "So long, it's been good to know you..." Later, Woody would turn that into a song that's still sung today.

  • HSUgrad - Glad you enjoyed it. If you are teaching the Dust Bowl, check out "The Worst Hard Time" by Tim Egan. All true stories, and I couldn't put it down. - gmbudt
