World Record | Men's 200m Backstroke | Swum by Japanese superstar Ryosuke Irie at the Australia vs Japan Duel in the Pool meet in Canberra on Sunday 10 May 2009 | His time of 1:52.86 took more than a second off Ryan Lochte's previous world record of 1:53.94 | Arguably the best backstroke technique the world has ever seen | He was wearing a new Arena swim suit thou, which as yet, is still pending FINA approval | This footage has been taken from Channel One HD Australia | If this is a breach of copyright, please advise and I will remove the footage |

  • @markk124 I don't understand why FINA didn't approve it either. This isn't even a full body suit. FINA approve full body suit record but not this. Do you not see what they are trying to do??

  • this heat was absolute destruction

  • "We noticed in the swim, ryosuke's head is so still, is that something he trains on a lot?"

"I want to break the world record, and also this is an Australian meet, so, uh, I wanted to swim for Japan team, and also, uh, all the teammates cheering out for him, so that, that was great race."
