All Maytag engines are two-stroke. The engine is ignition-governed. A governor in the flywheel controls the ignition.

It's a 2-stroke engine; it has no exhaust valve.

Where's the gas tank ?

I have a Model 82 that I restored several years ago, mine doesn't have those extensions on the fuel tank though, just a tab with an elongated hole cast on each end of the tank.

That is too cool! Why does it pop every few seconds? Is that the exhaust valve?

Thanks, it pops when the engine fires. It is a hit and miss throttled by a weighted gov. When it pops, it is firing.
