Five promos for Public Broadcasting Service programming from 1972. I wonder to myself why anyone else hasn't uploaded animations like these ones of the PBS I.D. from all the years it was used. Still looking for the Christmas promo variant of it that was interstitial material between programs. If anyone out there previously worked for PBS and has any animations on film, would they please come forward and post them? I would enjoy seeing them.

  • if someone find the Xmas logo of the 1971 logo

  • Yes, I wish someone would find that one. A 16mm film dealer on Ebay had it, though he didn't advertise it on the site. I don't know if it's been sold by now.

  • Major retro-ness FTW! Great find, Aspergian!

  • Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) What does FTW stand for, by the way? That is an acronym I am not familiar with.

  • Was it William Daniels doing the voiceover?

  • Great find- I adore these! So simple, sweet & mellow, as opposed to the annoying in-your-face-loud-loud-loud-do-i-have-your-attention-yet commercials they hurl at us these days.

The animation of the flowers blooming for May is gorgeus. The whole thing is gorgeus, actually. Very Schoolhouse Rock.

It just irks me that the P-headette is scowling at the begining, like she can't be happy untill the MAN shows up. Couldn't her face just have been passive & normal? (I know, my feminisim is showing.)

  • @Aspergian For The Win.

  • I'm just astonished watching this stuff. (1972 was ten years before I joined the human race). You know, back then people already said television was bad for you, and it probably was, but JEEZ. It has to be a thousand times worse for you now, because today it's constant sensory overload----sensory assault, really. I watcth these old PBS promos and I can't believe how quiet and peaceful they are. Now compare that to, say....ABC Family promos today, which to me are the worst of the worst.

  • @thetoolbox112394 Guess I am an old fogey because i was born in 1968,but I am a baby compared to Andy Rooney who just recently passed away today.I was one of the last people to get a cellphone and my own laptop last year.I am too young to be a Baby Boomer but too old to be a Gen X'er.

  • What has changed between then and the 1980s - it's amazing. In the '80s they had their "TV Worth Watching" logos. However, the original 1970s logo was used until 1984.

  • At The End, PBS 1971 Logo Has No Sound, Just Birds Tweeting.

  • I didn't know the P-Head had a mouth.
