Matthis Chiroux is an active member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. When the army attempted to recall him to active duty months after he had been honorably discharged in September 2007, Matthis, publicly announced in Washington, D.C., his plans to ignore the Army's orders to report to Iraq the following June.In a press conference May 15, 2008 Matthis read a statement that said, in part:"As an Army journalist whose job it was to collect and filter service members' stories, I heard many stomach-churning testimonies of the horrors and crimes taking place in Iraq. For fear of retaliation from the military, I failed to report these crimes, but never again will I allow fear to silence me. "Never again will I fail to stand. ... This occupation is unconstitutional and illegal, and I hereby lawfully refuse to participate, as I will surely be a party to war crimes. ..." Sgt. Matthis Chiroux, served in the Army as a Photojournalist until being honorably discharged after over four years of service in Afghanistan, Japan, Europe and the Phillipines. Today Sgt. Chiroux is an Iraq War Resister and an advocate for peace and social justice. He has led and participated in numerous civil disobedience actions since refusing to deploy as a sergeant in the Army two years ago. Matthis has called for a U.S. 'insurgency' opposing the wars abroad, as well the U.S. Government's crimes at home. Though a permanent resident of Brooklyn, Matthis is currently at Fort Hood, Texas, working with Soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment scheduled to deploy in late August. He continues to speak out at various antiwar events around the country.

  • Obama is exactly like Bush, except he has left cover and has destroyed the anti-war movement. Now we have war for "humanitarian reasons".

  • 1:14 "War on Terror"

Do you consider Operation Northwoods a Terrorist Act?

    1:24 "A Debate"

If you support the War, then join the US Military (World Police, with over 80 international bases).

  • Amazing as always! Thumbs up!
