Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Harvey, with Oklahoma Cardiovascular Associates, will be implanting a biventricular defibrillator live over the Internet on September 21st at 5:00 PM CDT from the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
The implantation of a biventricular defibrillator is a significant part of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) to restore the natural synchronized beating of the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, to treat chronic heart failure. The right and left ventricles must beat in a synchronized pattern to get the blood pumped optimally from the heart to deliver oxygen to the rest of the body. When the ventricles are out of sync - the heart function declines - patients experience marked shortness of breath, dry cough, swelling in the ankles, weight gain, fatigue and a rapid or irregular heartbeat.

Thanks for the video! I got mine in November, after dying on the operating table of another heart surgery :/ but I'm alive now! I'm 14 and the heart condition(s) run in my dads side of the family. I think mine is set to 215, and I'm terrified that it will go off! My dad has one and he said it's like a horse kicking you in the chest when it does! So I try to walk everywhere :)

There's over 250 programmable parameters in an ICD, not just the rate its set at (eg 150bpm). Get your company rep to interrogate your device... it's their job to know them all!

have you had the company rep interogate your device? it sounds like you might benefit from a different type of lead - that is a 15 min procedure to change it - you can even leave the old one inplace - it wont bother you!

well y'see its silly because the doctors after they checked his heart asked me if he used to run daily or anything- naturally, i laughed! his heart is in tip top condition! and yes we know about magnets hehe. funny thing is, his body in general is in great condition and there literally was no reason or explanation for his random death!

Well, The battery lasts for about 8 years, it all depends if it is used or not.
200 bpm?
He needs to aquire a good Physichal condition, because if he runs, and his heart reaches that level, he will get shocked by the Device, and that, that is nasty.
Tell him to be VERY careful with Magnets.
Oh, i guess the doc already told you that XD Sorry.
Anyway, if u have any cuestions, il gladly answer them ^_^
