Through the use of music, Able Music Therapy provides a community based service which aims to encourage communication, participation, socialisation and self-expression to enrich the lives of people with disabilities.

Why music therapy?

Research has shown that music provides a range of therapeutic benefits in the areas of psychological, physiological, social, emotional and cognitive function.

Needs that can be addressed in Music Therapy:


Relaxation, enjoyment and/or interest
Provide individuals with a creative outlet
Enhance physical, sensory and cognitive skills
Encourage interaction with others
Assist with mobility and motor skills
Provide an outlet for expressing frustrations or grief
Help motivate an individual develop new skills
Build self-esteem and empowerment
Who can benefit from music therapy?

Able Music Therapy is available to persons of any age or ability regardless of musical skill or background. A fee is charged for music therapy services.


What does Able Music Therapy offer?

Able Music Therapists design sessions that assist participation in shared musical experiences such as:


Singing
Instrument playing
Movement to music
Listening to music
Song writing

Able Music Therapy provides group and individual sessions, program consultancy, assessment and evaluation of individual client needs and case management.

All Able Music Therapists are highly skilled musicians with training in the behavioural sciences who have completed an accredited university course in Music Therapy, and are registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association.
