  • ok, all of you people that say aikido is fake or to old, or inaffective, have you ever actually done a technique, have you ever been to a single training with a real sensei???? i myself got thrown 5 meters by a little girls who is 4 times lighter than me and 12 years younger (im 24) in training, so tell me which part of that is fake or obsolete???? don't trash something you know nothing about, if you could learn aikido by watching it on youtube, everyone would be a master, silly people.

  • Aikido is hard to understand.

Aikido is different to most martial arts as the practice techniques are NOT to be used as a form of self-defence or fighting system.

People who teach Aikido as self-defence and then teach it as "if they do this you do this technique" have no idea.

You don't use Aikido in a real fight you use the principles and body conditioning that practicing Aikido in the dojo have given you.

You do NOT try to do a textbook Aikido technique, it won't work 99% of the time

  • @morbidni3 I did learn a little bit aikido from the tube but mostly I learned bjj and judo and I must say it is great. i can now compete with black belts and stand my own and sometimes score an ippon:) but aikido takes many years to master and like I said I learned in 3 months like a normal practitioners would in 3 years, the techniques I mean.tc bye bye

  • @taiji218 I am not putting u down, what i simply stated was fact. The founder of Ki Aikido broke away from the original Aikido of o sensei and started his own Ki Aikido. You have your own believe I have my own. I have always held belief that Ueshiba should be honoured & respected as thoese of his kin, he was the original founder after all.

I am not putting u down, just stating facts. Aikido isn't about competition it was what O sensi would've wanted. However do whatever u want.

  • @Wolfsbane909 "Recognized" by whom? The Hombu dojo? Why would the Hombu dojo recognize an organization it sees as a competitor? There are some 30,000 Ki-Aikido practitioners in Japan and some 100,000 world wide.

By the way, why did you put "Europe" in all-caps?

I believe in encouraging people to think for themselves. Find the art that you're happiest with and go for it. Don't let somebody else do your thinking for you. There's no need to put others down who don't do it your way.

  • @taiji218 fact: Ki Aikido is recognized in EUROPE but not in Japan; the country of origin. There are similarities but different interpretations of thoese techniques.

  • @fudo9 The "bobbing up and down" utilizes the inherent power of skipping to generate tremendous effortless power. It is utilized in less obvious fashion in a number of other arts, including taijiquan and baguazhan. If you wish to experience the power of "bobbing up and down" in person, check out John Ely in the Chicago area. He' s the softest martial artist I know of, next to Vladimir Vasiliev. He's even softer than Tohei was.

  • @Wolfsbane909 Tohei was Uyeshiba's head instructor. When Uyeshiba died, his son took over as head of the Hombu dojo. Uyeshiba's son disliked Tohei's position as head instructor and a turf battle essentially started. Tohei left when it became evident to all that there was not going to be an amicable solution to the problem. It was hardly "going rogue." Tohei's introduction of Ki instruction was his attempt to make the art more accessible to others. Hardly something Uyeshiba would have an MI over

  • "ki" aikido shouldn't even be called aikido! sensei would have heart attack at such an insult, "Tohei' went rouge years ago leaving the aikido federation to start his own art shortly after the death of founder ueshiba(surprised?).

  • i know Aikido now =) aha

  • Ki Aikido is for people who don't get Aikido. You can be very soft and extremely dynamic with Aikido itself.

In the 21st century Ki Aikido is obsolete as there are many beautiful Aikido Senseis who know how to teach well. Their bobbing up and down is silly and embarrassing.

Working through the centre, grounding the body can put delayed recoil on the upper torso, which gives the Ki Aikido dynamics.

If someone says that Aikido is not effective, then they don't know it well.
