Having studied under Olohe Kaihewalu in California in the mid 70's, I can say that I have the utmost respect for this art. And for the Kaihewalu family. This was obviously many years ago, but the art is still alive in me....

@koalalumpar From genetic mapping of the world they now know Polynesians came from Indonesian/Malaysian area. I saw the same thing in the arts when I first witnessed Lua, having some Silat background. Interesting huh?
Great arts !!

The fact that the express purpose of the martial art is to BREAK BONES is crazy badass.

@qilin4 Bra it kinda like Haka you r not far of the mark however the slap DANCE is thought by non practitioners in hula halau all over. open hand strikes are a whole different thing. But your smart and I imagine u figured that one out. No pilikea ever.
Gust saying.
Every single civilization has their own martial art systems. You won't find a culture on earth that didn't train in armed and unarmed combat. The difference is, alot of them died when Europe colonized most the world with guns. Alot of cultures and languages were lost, there for, their fighting systems were lost as well.
