Does Thunderbird automatically downloads and saves the Emails your computer ? I have it installed but am not sure if saves the emails for later use.

Here's an even better tip, the preconfigured gmail uses POP, but you can set it up as an IMAP account, while you have to go through the standard settings, IMAP is much better than POP.
