Pastór de Lasala plays 'Aria Strizzoso de la Serva Padrona del Sr Pergolese' from Book III of Michel Corrette's 'Amusements du Parnasse' 1754. Between 1749 and 1772, Corrette wrote a total of 8 books in this series of harpsichord pieces. Books 5 & 7 are unfortunately lost. Book III comprises 'beautiful Italian ariettas which have been sung at the Concert Spirituel and the Italian Opera. The spinet upon which this has been recorded was made by Carey Beebe in 1989 and is loosely based on an anonymous instrument in 1708 in the collection of the Royal Academy of Music, London. The photography was taken on location at the famous Château Vaux le Vicomte. It was this sumptuous château which enraged Louis XIV. Its owner, Nicolas Fouquet, superintendant of the finances, had misappropriated funds, was given life imprisonment. The king subsequently took the team of artists - Le Nôtre, Le Brun and Le Vau - to construct Versailles.
