R.I.P. Bobby! My childhood curiosity and fascination with Chess was ignited by his World Championship triumph over Boris Spassky in 1972. As he became more of a recluse my fascination with him and chess followed me to adulthood. I will continue to study and learn from his games forever.

@blackoil911 well the reason bobby fischer was so known is because he was a good looking person who did nothing but play chess, all the time, it was his passion, most people don't just ONLY play chess, bobby fischer did literally nothing else except he played some tennis to stay in shape quite amazing, there's no way I could do that, I don't have the self control to just only do one thing

my favorite bobby fisher story is when he won the monaco international chess championship and :

1- he refuse to have his photo taken with the tournaments sponser prince ranier

AND

2- at the award ceremony princess grace hands bobby an envelope with the prize money and while shes making her speech he rips open the envelope and starts counting the money...in front of her and the audience.

now that's friggin genius...maybe he thought grace had sticky fingers..after all he grew up in crooklyn

@Rollich That's Shelby Lyman. Mr. Lyman was one of the hosts of WNET's (PBS New York) 1972 coverage of the Fischer-Spassky match. A now-retired professor of Sociology, Mr. Lyman currently runs a chess column that appears in several newspapers.
