The New Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka and the new Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya assume duties.
General Sarath Fonseka took over his duties at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff this morning. A special Guard of Honour was accorded to him at the Joint Operations Headquarters. Assuming duties amidst multi religious observances, General Fonseka vowed that he will leave no room for any threat in future to Sri Lankas security and sovereignty. Former Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetilleke, New Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya, new Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe and IGP Jayantha Wickremeratne were among those present.
Lt. General Jagath Jayasuriya assuming duties as the 19th Army Commander, assured he will dedicate to fulfilling all responsibilities on behalf of the motherland. He was accorded a special military Guard of Honour upon his arrival at the Army Headquarters. Thereafter he assumed duties amidst multi religious observances. Many Senior Officers of the army were present.
