@roundyz1981 Yeah, that makes more sense. Now that I look at it, I can see that the login splash screen has a graphic. The first time I watched this, I thought that this was all being displayed without starting X.

@cybercernary This is standard xdm login manager. added to the xsetup_0 file that lives in /etc/X11/xdm. The syslog is displayed using roottail and conky for the stats. Sorry for the delayed response.

@NiGhtMarEs0nWax Thanks. All compiled on system through portage. To be honest It never feels slow..some years later...:) Hoping to give this t the wife, when I can afford a Lenovo thinkpad x201...Then gentoo will go on that too!
