Happy Halloween! This is why I went through the videos backwards--so that you'll be seeing a Meteos Wars online match appropriate for the day. In this match, I use the spine-tinglingly spooky planet, Gigagush. This is also why I used the Skull accessory for these matches.

Gigagush is inhabited by creatures that seem to have properties of both spiders and vampires, even though they look like neither. Gigagush is a planet at the center of a vortex spanning 160,000 kilometers wide. Anyone unlucky enough to come too close to the vortex gets ensnared in it (not unlike a spider web--or a Transylvanian castle) and spirals inward to the hordes of bloodthirsty predators waiting for their next meal. Gigagushers have these fangs, you see, which suck the blood, or any other source of life force, from their prey. Gigagushers feed on anything. With a population of 25 billion, Gigagush seems to be a successful snare trap. This race certainly lives up to its name.

Well, they're the ones in danger of losing their life force now, as the Meteos have zeroed in on Gigagush. These guys can't eat the Meteos...They have to fend them off.

And fending them off is all that the Gigagushers can do, for you see, a Screen Clear on Gigagush is impossible. Meteos on Gigagush will never go from the bottom of the screen past the top. Do you remember Mekks? The clusters move like that, except a bit different. Don't remember Mekks? Well, both Mekks and Gigagush have ignitions that go up at a fixed speed, then instantly come back down at the exact same fixed speed. The size of the ignition and how many ignitions you've chained together makes no difference. It's just going to go up to that height, then come back down.

For more on Mekks, see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGZfED5OfeY

What sets Gigagush apart from Mekks is that it's a bit more complex. Mekks's ignitions always went up the same height based on the height of the bottom of the cluster. Thus, you could conceivably empty out a column if you made a midair ignition at a high enough spot. The height of Gigagush's ignitions are constant, regardless of the height of the ignition: It will always come back down so that when it lands, there are exactly 3 Meteos in the column, assuming more hasn't fallen down through normal progress of the game or through garbage blocks. Before we continue, I'll tell you something about Gigagush's width:

In the original DS version, Gigagush was 11 columns wide. It's been shrunk down to 9 here, I guess for competitive balance. I could see that there was a time that Gigagush had 10 columns, and it seemed planned as such, because Gigagush's bio states that it has 10 columns. This is the only case in the game where the information told is incorrect, as far as I know, so the shrinking from 10 to 9 must have happened late in development.

This means that, either way, Gigagush is a more advanced version of Mekks, where you have more blocks to manage and the bottom three rows will always be occupied unless something special happens, such as a bomb. Gigagush has more horizontal space (which is bad) and less vertical space (which is also bad). You also have less time to make a chain because Meteos restore themselves fairly quick, and because ignitions always come down 3 blocks tall, it can be difficult finding enough Meteos to do another ignition. So...how does Gigagush have any competitive advantage at all?

By abusing the Speeder. Since Meteos always come down 3 blocks tall, it doesn't matter how high up your playing field is. As long as you can make a match, you're clearing a whole lot of blocks. Since Gigagush works faster than Mekks, you're more likely to build up the garbage block meter if you can play quick on your fingers. And because Gigagush has a wider playing field, it means that the garbage block meter builds up faster than on Mekks. Thus, unlss you're playing Mekks or another Gigagush, your strategy is to flood the opponent with garbage blocks. Gigagush shares Mekks's Planet Impact, Gambit, which you can use if you feel like launching your army of garbage blocks sometime soon, so the assault becomes bigger and your opponent's playing field will fill up with Meteos faster. Instant pressure.

To see just how powerful this strategy can be, just look at what happens to poor Geolyte on the second round. Lag or no lag, that's a situation that's very difficult to escape from.

By the way, if you haven't been introduced to Geolyte, it's the average planet, with average stats in everything. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvWL1c5RDHQ

  • on the right, Bravo tv logo

  • You can play as it, if you like the logo.

  • Gigagush. also known as Vortinia. actually the Vortinians Suck in prey and finish them off with a Poison Fang... u can see them as Crobat from Pokemon.. except with legs

  • No, it says the Gigagushers "use poison fangs." Poison fangs are real and what some bats, snakes, spiders, and mollusks do.

  • I've done numerous Screen Clears on Gelyer already. I believe you when you say you can clear the field in Gigagush, though I'd say it's also improbable as Gigagush is designed to leave you with no more than 3 rows after an ignition--destroying most of your options for another ignition.

  • Yes, I did. Since there's so little information out there about strategies for this game, most of the stuff you see me do are strategies I come up with on my own.

  • I was joking about counterparts between Meteos planets and Mario characters when someone mentioned that Geolyte is "the Mario" of the bunch.

The phrase "the Mario" typically means the normal standard easy-to-use, beginner-friendly main character though.

  • On the DS version of this Planet, the Meteos block looks like Space Invader Enemies, as so the music sounds like somesorta 8-bit-ish, which made me thought that this planet is a retro video gamer XD

Awesome job at the Garbage block attack of doom (tm)!

  • Brabbit is a planet you'll see later and is pretty much designed to launch a massive garbage block assault like that. However, it's extremely hard to set up such an attack, and it took me quite a while to figure out it could do that.

Wow, major garbage block attack! That'd be downright scary to be on the recieving end of! Great job.
