Bike down a volcano with Maui Mountain Cruisers. Limited seats are available for viewing the magnificent view from the top of Mt. Haleakala then enjoying a "pedal free" bike ride down the slope of the mountain starting at a 6,300 foot elevation.
Two guides provide you with aloha, knowledge and the safety precautions you deserve. Your cruise leader leads the way on your express "coasting" view of Maui starting just outside of the park. On this 20 plus mile of paved shared road you may only have to pedal for a mile or less. This short video is from the starting point of 6500 foot elevation. The entire experience tours to the Holy Rosary Church just outside of Pa'ia Town. There are picture stops along the way to capture the moments and a break at The Sunrise Market in Kula for a "no-host" lunch ($8 cash), a flower shop and country market.
For gear you will be provided with a Genuine Worksman bicycle, helmet and wind suit.
We provide the transportation to and from your lodging or docking area and you will be greeted at our baseyard for a muffin / coffee breakfast at the historic train depot just outside of historic Pa'ia Town. You will have time to meet your dispatcher, cruise leader and driver. If you plan to stay the afternoon in Pa'ia Town you can also drive to meet us at our base for your convenience.
Wear warm layers of clothing, closed toe shoes and protective eyewear such as sunglasses or prescription eyewear. A safety briefing and medical clearance/risk form will be necessary and provided to you before your tour begins. Restrooms at both the baseyard and Sunrise Market.
The temperatures at that elevation are very chilly reminding some of our visitors of the winter they left back home! The temperature distance from mountain to sea can differ 30 degrees. It's a very refreshing morning.
You will have to pay attention to the road while moving. Your speed could be over 15 MPH. Please be in good health, with good judgment and be able to use both hands to brake frequently. If you have ohana that do not meet the age range of 14 to 60 or are not strong bike riders, you may opt to share the experience by having them enjoy the uninterrupted view of two coastlines with our second tour leader in the van.
The van will follow the pack of cruisers to ensure we share the road properly with other visitors and the upcountry lifestyle. The van driver, cruise leader and baseyard dispatcher will stay in radio contact for your entire trip ensuring the adventure is safe for all. This is a thrilling experience descending from the slope of Mt. Haleakala at over 6000 feet through countless switchbacks with eucalyptus forest, grazing fields and upcountry life.
Make sure to bring your camera for the picture stops and your sense of adventure!
This "pedal-free" and "peddle-free" midday experience also has souvenir shirts and postcard coconuts for $20.00 each. You will stop briefly back at the baseyard before you are brought back in plenty of time to enjoy your afternoon.
