Western train put back on track after massive government spending

THE State Government will spend $1.3 billion building a new train line for
300,000 commuters as part of a massive public transport spend funded by the sale
of assets.
The project will include two new stations with carparks and 11km of twin tracks
from Glenfield to Leppington in the boom region that will have 300,000 extra
residents in the next 20 years.
The line will feed into Parramatta, establishing it as the true second CBD and
hub of western Sydney, before joining the western line into Central.
In a bold move, Mr Rees has vowed to fully fund the southwest rail link whether
the Federal Government comes to the party or not. After years of delays, work on
the project will start early next year and be completed in 2016.
It is understood the Premier will make the announcement in his speech to the
State ALP Conference this morning in a last-ditch effort to lock his party in
behind him in the lead-up to the election 16 months away.
The project had been sidelined in last year's hugely unpopular mini-Budget but
Mr Rees stepped in to reverse the decision by committing money from the sale of
NSW Lotteries, electricity retailers and other assets into this and other
projects.
I Just watched this yesterday. Finally the South West Rail Link project came back to light, instead of staying in hell, just like the extended Eastern Suburbs that was suppose to end at Kingsford, but only ends at Bondi Junction.
Most of us still need the North West Rail link as well, because it starts from St. James, ending at Vineyard. Same goes for the Western Metro.
