A better Hayworth than Hayworth

@mallorens Actually, Rita was of European descent on both sides -- her father was from Spain, her mother Irish and English. If Lynda, whose mother was Mexican, was cast for that reason then the producers were silly enough to think no one knows the difference. They are both stunning ladies though. What a shame this looks like a tacky film.

It's likely that she was chosen at the time because both women were of (partial) latin descent.

This is one of the best performances of this song you'll find on YT, citing Lynda's vocals and the big band accompanying her. Top drawer! Lynda sang and burlesqued the HELL out of this number, better than anybody - very gutsy - where Hayworth just lipsinked to Anita's track. More than Hayworth did! You can't really compare Lynda to Rita in Gilda, because, whether you liked the TV movie or not [I did], she wasn't playing Gilda. She was playing Hayworth, playing Gilda.

Lynda is gorgeous! But you must be on crack or something. NO ONE CAN COMPARE TO RITA!!!

This girl doesn't hold a candle to The sex bomb Rita ,,You are blind and confused buddy.

You have to understand that this was a made for tv movie in the 80's. They used the tv stars they had available at the time. Movie stars still didn't like to do tv (and still don't) so Linda was probably the best choice at the time.

Is she supposed to be me? ... It's simply disgraceful. "Down to Earth" 1947
LOL Lynda is beautiful but this was a miscast. It's not easy to fit Rita's shoes!

@impassable yes your a idiot and rita hayworth was one of the great beauties ever. wow! get a life!!!
You have got to be kidding me to suggest that this was better than Rita herself! Linda is gorgeous, but better? Give me a break.

Lynda is a beautiful woman but to say, "she turned Rita to dust" HA! you must be high. This is from the 1983 T.V. movie The Love Goddess. A cheap, tacky biopic of (the one and only) Rita Hayworth. If it were made today it would go straight to DVD, and then straight to the $1.00 bin at Goodwill. Thanks for the laugh.
