@mostangrypirate --- lol, with a whole lot of scraping and elbow grease. Then, when the worst of it is removed, a wire brush/sandpaper. I even took a screw driver and chiseled/scrapped it off when I got really frustrated, but I wouldn't suggest this (possibly the source of the small leak, not "link," that I mentioned before). I wish I had a better solution. I imagine they are out there. I was just empathizing with you because after four of 'em, it gets old real fast =D

Hello,...I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the mention on your video. also thank you to.. "evadnosliw". I'm glad I inspired you guys to build a solar heater. I've had mine now coming on two years, and it works great. This is one project that you'll be proud of, and it keeps giving everyday. I enjoy watching everyone's videos and look forward to see your video of the finished heater. Great Job. Todd / Backyardsolar

Really informative vid. Great to see others getting into it. Look forward to seeing how the project turns out. I think there are a number of people out there that owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Backyardsolar ... i too have built one using his ideas and have now been running on solar heated water for 2 weeks. Great stuff! Hope you don't mind attached vid.

@MaxpotHead i use a community site called freecycle. I get on there and ask for non-working water heaters. as long as they don't leak.

I've stripped four tanks now (all were fine, one minor link up top on one) and that blown in insulation foam is a pain in the ass xD ... nice upload, thanks^^

@cantecleer yes, the blown-in stuff is horrid. How did you remove yours?
