Cal students! Come try out for the West Coast's first all male fusion team. In our first year last year, we rocked Bollywood Berkeley with an exhibition performance and went on to compete at Jhoomti Shaam in LA and win the award for Best Fusion performance at West Coast Crown.

If you have any questions, email UCBerkeleyZahanat@gmail.com or post it on our facebook group!

Zahanat will be holding tryouts, which will be coming up THIS WEEK. Tryouts are a two-step process: first, we'll teach you a short routine; then, you guys will have about one week to practice and audition with the given routine.

We will be teaching a JOINT routine with the Cal HFD (Hindi Film Dance) team this year. What that means it is that THIS WEDNESDAY (9/15) and THURSDAY (9/16) from 9-11pm in the RSF Garage, we will teach you guys a short dance routine. The first half of this tryout routine will be exactly the same as what HFD is learning and we will in fact be teaching it together. After the first hour, all the people who want to try out for Zahanat specifically will branch out and learn a different second half of the routine that emphasizes more hip-hop and bhangra steps. Keep in mind that you do NOT need any prior experience to come out to learn the routine or tryout for the team. Also, if you feel as though you don't want to tryout after learning the routine, that's perfectly ok - it's not mandatory to audition; you can come to tryouts just to learn a cool routine if you choose.

We'll be teaching the SAME routine on both Wednesday and Thursday, so it's not mandatory that you attend both days (though keep in mind that it's a great chance for you to get critiqued practice if you can come twice). If you're unable to come this Wednesday or Thursday to learn the routine, we'll be posting the tryout routine on YouTube. We can't emphasize enough the NEED to PRACTICE this routine many times after you learn it; if you're having trouble mastering the steps, reach out to any of the Zahanat team members and they'll be happy to critique your audition in preparation for tryouts.

Hopefully you guys are PUMPED up to be a part of this team because it's going to be a sick year! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at this address. Other than that, I look forward to seeing you guys all out there on Wednesday and Thursday from 9-11pm in the RSF Garage.
