Martin Jeremiah, singer / songwriter from Sussex, once again gives us his personal view on this country's political situation using one of his songs "Headed Down That Road" taken from his CD Love Peace Justice www.rwgrecords.co.uk
Here's what Martin has to say:
I fancied making something for the Coalition's first major test i.e. this year's local elections. The Lib Dems might deservedly face electorial meltdown for sacrificing principles in order to feed the egos of senior Lib Dem politicians.
People too easily forget that half of the country's defecit came at the hands of the greedy bankers. The banking crisis would have happened under a Tory Government too - the "cheer leaders" for deregulation of the City. The other half of the defecit was not at all unusual for a Western government. In fact, even with the bankers' idiocy, the defecit is still less as a proportion of Gross Domestic Product [GDP] than the European average.
It's desirable to get the defecit down of course, but not by choking off growth -the best route to repayment. The Tories are simply using the defecit to cloak their ideological agenda - "rob the poor to feed the rich".
