This is a friendly warning to my friend ed1952 to learn this song when traveling the "deep south". When Happy Traum (of Homespun Tapes fame) traveled the south whith his guitar in the sixties he tried to hitch a ride. A pickup truck, with wellstacked gunrack, stopped and the driver asked him :"can you play "Under The Double Eagle" on that gitah?" Happy said "no" and was left standing there in a cloud of dust...

Since I'm a fingerpicker....fingerpicking a flatpick instrumental :)

I learned it a zillion years ago out of a book "How to play flatpicking guitar" by Happy Traum; I never got the hang of flatpicking so I gave the book away....

  • Excellent -- you have a thumb pick it looks like -- are you wearing a finger pick too!

Great video very clean clear notes -- just like Chet Atkins!!! (<:

  • @Mandolin1944

  • nice version

  • how can anybody not love that??????

  • It starts out good and after the first theme it goes somewhere and becomes vague. Forget Happy traum and dig some Chet and Hank Snow and or Travis. They all at least state the melody , which without is going nowhere.

  • I think that fellow in the pickup would have given you a ride anywhere you wanted to go! LOL Great job!

  • This is the version I picked up from my Dad, maybe around 1978.

  • well i meant that cause he dont really have a use for it because he is fingerpickin

  • I have 2 of them waiting to go on something nice.

  • lol
