@Sanguiluna Haha. You pretty much just described UFC

Pro wrestling isn't like this anymore because it wouldn't sell to save its life. I would definitely love to see more shootish-style matches, more athleticism, less promos, and all that. But modern day professional wrestling represents a natural evolution from then to now. I think that professional wrestling gets respect except from the people who don't understand it but they don't matter

Pro Wrestling was certainly more different back then, made to look like a competitive sport, rather than a soap opera with pantomime looking guys. A todays audiance just wouldent accept this now.
-
Why can't wrestling be like this? No storylines, no over-the-top gimmicks, no hardcore extreme bullshit, no face-heel dichotomy; just two wrestlers putting up a realistic-looking wrestling match. Maybe then wrestling will begin to be respected again, instead of being looked down upon.

@AmericanCombatAssoc LOL!!! God I feel the same way. I was watching a old school western ad they had a wrestling match between a german cowboy and an Apache Indian and there was a double wrist lock, head scissors and even a guard pass and a guy in the room couldn't believe it, he just could not wrap his mind around that this movie was filmed before the Gracies "invented" submission wrestling...lol
-
@AmericanCombatAssoc Nobody has ever argued that Masahiko Kimura invented the Ude-hishigi ude-garami with which he beat Helio Gracie.
Not only that, you're mistaken on the technique. It's a Top Wrist Lock or a Keylock. It's more similar to what BJJ guys call an Americana, not a Kimura. However, it's for an entirely different purpose-- here, being utilized to secure the pin fall, rather than being a concession hold.
-
@alderopop that doesnt look anything like BJJ other than the fact that both use submissions. The entire approach and strategy is totally different.
-
@tuvaluman its a work but its still a very scientific wrestling match...its fake but it looks a lot more like a real fight than pro wrestling you see these days
-
I'm pretty sure the kimura lock has been a jiu-jutsu or judo move(forget which) LONG before a wrestler started using it.
Amazing footage - thanks for transferring this vintage wrestling!
