  • I agree about the exercise myth. for a year I exercised an hour five days a week and lost absolutely no weight. Then I quit sugar cokes and my weight continues to drop with out exercise. cut sugar=lose weight

  • Sometimes removing sugar is not enough. Many people need to eliminate many other carbs.

  • Thank you Dr Mercola and thank you Gary. This interview was very interesting. This is terrific information and I truly hope that Gary's message gets out to the masses particularly the media. It is so refreshing to hear somebody finally speak up with the true facts against this ridiculous "eat less, exercise more" message that is forced onto people all the time, creating guilt, shame and blame for fat people.

  • @bams3r actually depending on the fat % of the milk it may be lower index than you think. Although I would recommend that if your main goal is weight loss limit milk b/c it does contain carbs (maybe postworkout would be best).

As for postworkout, again depends on your goals, it weight loss is of most importance I would recommend lowering carbs until desired leanness. It you want to eat high GI carbs, then postworkout is the best time to do it.

Try looking up carb cycling, or Charles poliquin.

  • great interview really. but what about foods high in insulin-index, such as milk. not the best opt. for weight loss?

and would you say spiking insulin can be beneficial after exercise?, because this is common belief over the internet.

  • This was interesting... I am overweight, have always been vegetarian, but eat a lot of sugar... I think that even if you don't notice any weight loss with exercise, you still reap many benefits.

  • This is my first exposure to Gary Taubes and his study of nutrition. I'm a layperson who's been on a lifelong search for "the right way" to eat. I cried when Gary outlined the chronology of selling fructose to the public in the 1980's as a healthier-than-sugar alternative...I remember first "reading labels" in those years; looking for fructose!! I've been climbing back from that slippery slope ever since...

  • I just realized I said 6 weeks. It was in fact 10 weeks, or 2 1/2 months. Sorry for the error!

  • Thank you for posting this series. I decided in April to cut sugar out of my diet because I was craving it constantly. In the ensuing 6 weeks that followed I lost 10 pounds and dropped my BMI by a whopping 5%. After the 4th of July weekend, in which I had quite the overload of celebratory sweets, not only did I *stop* losing weight, I actually gained 3 pounds in five days and saw a 2% increase in my BMI! I am happily resorting back to my low-carb diet, animal-protein diet. Thank you!

  • I'm wondering if there is any difference between white sugar and brown or raw cane sugar, as far as your body processing it? I think it is worth mentioning too, that sea salt can have alot of minerals, where processed white salt not so much...
