Or even a train that just came form over the pass and is longer than any normal train that you see passing though on a normal basis. Not to mention 2 crossings down is Puyallup High School where 60% of the time there was a train blocking the crossing for me to get to school in the morning.
Plus you could have and auto rack train freight train that could take 5 min or a slow moving loaded grain train heading towards Tacoma to off load at the grain elevator along the waterfront that could take forever as well.
Was a poor comparison of 2 totally different trains. I was born and raised in Puyallup and have a love for trains as well. But these examples of trains are horrible. You cant compare freight and passenger. Passenger will always win, freight has to wait on passenger because it has the right of way in most cases anyway.
Apparantly not. I used to live next to the LIRR tracks, and we took train safety very seriously. Once those bells started ringing, we just stayed put.
passenger train only has 6 cars while cargo tarin has 8o cars.... big difference

Does the jogger have any idea what would happen if he tripped while crossing the rails?

I think the freight train is going about 40 or 45 mph, but that just means a faster freight might take close to 3 minutes.
