Magnesium can burn in water if it has been ignited first. The piece of magnesium is too tiny to sustain itself when submerged in water, but it does burn brighter when it comes into contact with the water

  • Mg, and most metal, fires can only be put out with a Class D fire extinguisher or contained and allowed to burn out.
