SideReel's resident One Tree Hill fanatic, Rachel, breaks down the show's series finale. What did you think of the final episode, Season 9 Episode 13, of One Tree Hill? Sound off in the comments!

Transcript:
Hi One Tree Hill fans, this is Rachel and I'm here to talk about last night's One Tree Hill series finale extravaganza. So, if you haven't yet watched, consider this your spoiler alert.

I don't know about you, but it's hard to believe that we've been watching One Tree Hill for 9 seasons - nearly a decade. I don't know about you, but I officially feel old.

As a show that has been propelled largely by it's fans - you know - One Tree Hill was not a smash hit originally - the creator wanted to do right by the fans in the finale. Not only were we thanked repeatedly in the retrospective that aired before the finale, but being thanked was also built into the finale itself. When Haley was addressing the crowd at Tric, she said "As most of you know, tonight is a very special night for us, so I'd like to take a moment to thank you all for being here. The time that we have spent together over the years has meant so much, and without you we would not be here tonight." - and we knew that this was also the creator of the show speaking to us as fans.

The finale started off with trips down memory lane for some of the main characters. We saw flashbacks of Brooke, Nathan & Haley in high school, cleverly woven into the filming of Julian's TV show. I feel like Sophia Bush looks pretty similar, but I couldn't get over how much James Lafferty has grown up when comparing the flashback and current footage. And, while some series finales don't address characters that have departed, they also tried to incorporate Lucas and Peyton - showing Chad Michael Murray & Hilarie Burton in flashback footage and even "recreating" Peyton's room in the present, again for Julian's TV show.

All in all, this could not have been a more satisfying finale, with happy endings for everyone - with nice wrap ups even for supporting characters like Quinn & Clay - including a marriage and an adoption of Clay's surprise child Logan. Mouth also inherited half a million dollars from Dan Scott, which he used to fund a scholarship in memory of Keith Scott and Jimmy, also a nice moment. Things even worked out for Chris Keller - getting a record contract - and Chase - becoming owner of Tric. Oh, and we got multiple performances from Gavin DeGraw - who of course sings the One Tree Hill theme song "I Don't Wanna Be". And finally, we even got a flash forward, showing a future teenage Jamie following in the footsteps of his father and achieving his future goal of beating Nathan's scoring record, surrounded by all of the happy parents.

For a show that often liked to have big surprising moments - car crashes, shootings, crazy kidnapping nannies - it was nice to just watch this low key finale, witnessing a happy ending for everyone and no surprise last minute character deaths. So, were you happy with this finale? How does it rank among other series finales? Were you bummed that Hilarie Burton and Chad Michael Murray - awful new hair and all - were unable to make appearances in person? We want to know what you think - and how you're coping with the loss of this show. Let US know in the comments!

Lucas and Peyton were'n't shown in flashbacks.. Were they?

Anyways, it is a disappointment that Chad and Hillary didn't make a surprise return like Craig did :(

And I'm actually hoping for a spin off series showing Jamie's life at high school

I stopped watching one tree hill after season 6, Lucas and Payton were my favourite characters, they were basically the main ones, it wasn't the same without them, also I thought season 1&2&3&4 were so much better than 5&6&7&8&9 because there was more drama and the show was about a bunch of teenagers, when there adults I found it boring to watch tbh.

Loved the finale, I feel a void in my life now the One Tree Hill is over. It was an awesome way to end, on a high. Loved the many performances and the quotes in the end of the finale. Really sad I will not get weekly dose of one tree hill,I got crazy withdraws but like Brooke said 'all good things come to an end'. I am soo buying Tyler Hilton's loaded gun song, can't get enough of it. Finally One Tree Hill"s finale is in a league of it's own. the whole show is and it cannot be replaced.

Sorry, I thought the "OH NO YOU DIDN'T" phrase itself would make it obvious that I was just playing around. ;) ;) ;)

In any case, sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for watching and commenting!

No, I wasn't for real at all - I was just playing off your own sarcasm! Sorry if I offended you - no need to call anyone dumb or a liar. I didn't watch the episode myself, but I'll check with Rachel - she certainly did, otherwise she wouldn't have reviewed it, and if she's mistaken on Peyton and Lucas being left out of any sort of flashbacks, I'm sure she'll give you the props you deserve!
