Cool review, I got one coming in tomorrow. I have a pair of FRS/GMRS Cobra radios already, and I'm going to test out the memory feature. I was wondering how it worked. Thanks!

those are not programmable are they? wondering if you can actually community with VHF units like GP300s, HT750's etc. you know
-
use FRS walkie talkies and avoid trouble
-
If you mean a dual-band amateur handy talkie can be "modded to do this" they can but it's not leagal to use amateur radios on GMRS or vhf Marine.

yeah it's very easy to pass though it's bout £75 for the 1 day coarse + bout £25 for the coarse Hope this helped :) **Mason**

Most people don't bother.

I don't see it as irresponsible to make a product like this. I think that each person should be responsible to get the proper licensing and training required to operate equipment they purchase.
-
Do you need any licesence to operate the VHF frequency?
-
GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) radios and marine VHF radios are both consumer products marketed to consumers? The consumer is responsible for obtaining his FCC license for GMRS. This product helps to keep GMRS type of conversation (typically casual and non-safety related) off the VHF emergency and vessel traffic frequencies. GMRS radios are always marketed to consumers in stores like Radio Shack! The small Cobra LiON battery ones are cool
Licensing depends on the country of use.

To have Rewins-Say-Again?

I notice that your Cobra, when operating in GMRS mode includes 22 channels yet you say that it will transmit at 5 watts of power? Now when this radio uses FRS frequencys (8-14) it will only transmit at 0.5 watts, which is governed by law? correct?

It only has the 15 GMRS channels. The channel numbers line up with other radios on the market, so it skips FRS 8-14. 22-7 = 15.
