This is one of my most cherished anime. However, I despise how people misappropriate Marimite as if it were solely a yuri anime. Marimite is not yuri. That is a popular bias propagated by outspoken yuri fans. There's enough ambigious subtext for them to be satisfied, but many promote it as if lesbian pairings are the main draw of the series.

Maria-sama has itself, alone, created a whole group of fans alone, but yuri is not the case here (obviously, since it's all subtext to non-existent)

What made this stand out from others is the character build up and relationship of the girls w/ one another. I've never seen character growth as beautiful as this one.
