CNN News analyst and reporter Reza Aslan comments on video appearing to show opposition supporters during protests in Tehran, particularly the footage showing picture of supreme leader Ali Khameneyee being torn apart and stepped over by people.
Security forces have used batons and tear gas to disperse opposition supporters in the Iranian capital, Tehran, witnesses and state media say.
Unconfirmed reports said the authorities had also opened fire.
Video footage and photos showed what appeared to be large crowds of opposition supporters being chased by security forces in riot gear.
It came as an officially backed demonstration was held to mark 30 years since the seizure of the US embassy.
Thousands were present at the anti-American rally, about 1.5km (1 mile) from where opposition supporters gathered in Haft-e Tir square.
Other groups turned out in other parts of the capital to voice their opposition to the regime.
Indeed. Prime Minister Robert Peel founded the British police. They were called the 'Peelers' at first, then 'Bobbies' by the public, and now they are the police. They didn't protect the public. Their sole purpose was to protect the tyranous rich elite, and it is still true today in the UK and the US. That is their fundamental role. Watch 'Manufacturing Consent' the award winning documentary when you get a chance. It will change your life!

@randalcoon You think your country has been 'supporting every people'? That's pure US propaganda I can promise you. Ever wondered why the world hates the US? It's because that $14 Trillion has been used to make wealthy military businessmen in the US extremely rich and powerful, whilst the US commits/commited attrocities and genocide across the world in the name of global dominance. You need to start reading declassified CIA docs etc. At least watch a few Noam Chomsky videos.

@TheGodlessGuitarist It is NOT that President Obama is too weak. It is that we have supported every people in the world as we could for 60 years, running our own deficit to 14Trillion dollars, MUCH from helping others for which we are never repaid. RIGHT NOW we are in 3 wars. Does anyone understand that we are also broke, and are taking these actions on China's loans. WE WILL have to pay them back. Yes, it will probbly take your people to at LEAST start the revolution. Sorry

@The1dreamy "obama is too weak,he would never help us iraninan.maybe Israel could get rid off this evil government"
Worse than that Obama actually supports the current state of affairs, not in his words but in his actions. Isreal is unlikely to take down the Iranian ruling party as the perceived threat from Iran is keeping the ultra conservative Israeli government in power.
I'm sorry to say this but it will take some very brave Iranian people to being down Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollah.

Freedom for Iran. Its like in Berlin 20 years ago. A cheated election followed by lies and pushinmg down the people to save illegitime political power.
We honour green movement with our farsi version of the song "We are the people"

1- The movement doesnt want Obama's open support.
All they ask is for Obama NOT TO legitimize, recognize or even deal with the regime.
there's a huge difference between the two issues.
2- As it is whether US supports or not, the movement IS BEING labeled by the regime. So there isnt much that can change if they start doing it more openly.

What can he do? Even with his no interference the Iranian hardliners continue to accuse America of interfering in their affairs. American can't really help them, otherwise the opposition will be labeled as tools or stooges of America. It was America's interference that caused them to revolt against the Shah. Even though I want America to help them, this is something that only they can achieve (in my opinion).

How apt that Obama's appeasement strategy of the illegitimate coup gov't is answered by: "death to america" chants !!!
shows how defective & naive the Obama administration has been in recognizing which side to support.
I'm sure President's Nobel peace prize particularly glowed brightly when he watched the brutal thugs of IRI beat women with electric batons!
