OK,I know that these engines do burn oil,but if this design is SO BAD,then why are they still in production? I have 148,000 on my 4.0 northstar, and besides about a quart of oil every oil change,it runs strong. Not to mention G.M has a supercharged version of this engine in prodution now. Back up your theory with some hard evidence, not empty, harsh words.thanks

@bestamerica Guess some retard here knows nothing about the advantage of the MR layout and how good their cooling system works.Do you kno this cars get air from the bottom to cool the engine up? hence why they have grills on the engine lid plus the cooling system is Very efficient hell my car temps instead of heating up on full throttle it goes down lol now we have to put a different thermostat an re tune the ecu.
-
@IRONSEAN7 don't forget they pack multiple radiators wit n a unique inter-cooling system. Although its supporting 700-1100hp.
-
@sneakypoof Plus less power loss on that drive train setup.

@bestamerica OMG, I hate when people just talk to hear themselves talk. Most of the world best sports cars have mid mounted engines. The Fiero has the rad up front, there are grills that are designed to channel air behind both driver and passenger. If your worried about airflow, you can always add an air duct (if you don't already have one). Further more, the traction on these cars is ridiculous because all the weight is in the back. Also the drive train is less complicated.

@bestamerica huh??? the motor on the back rear is no good, no cold air??? what are trying to say? there are plenty of ways to get cold air to the engine in the rear of the car my friend.... lamborghini and ferarri have rear engines and they do just fine,, lol

the motor on the back rear is not good,,,
because not enough getting cooler airflow to the radiator / motor,,,
where is the radiator on the back rear

@wideopen704 Although this is one year ago, best combo for LS4 V8 for the Fiero is straight out of a 2005 Pontiac GXP production car, which had the LS4 V8 mated to a T465E-HD heavy duty 4 speed automatic. Because this came in a production car you can probably trust its reliability more. You would take everything with computer, wiring, etc. If people put that trans in 3800 Fieros, it should work with the LS4 in the Fiero. For even more power try the LS4 turbo kit, which people put in GPX's
what trans did you guys use? cool swap I'm trying to get an LS4 in mine.

That's a 5 speed Getrag out of a 6 cyl. cavaliar. Good Luck

thanks for the info, does the gearbox handle the power of the northstar alright?
wideopen704 2 years ago
The trans had 91,000 miles on it, and it's supposed to be rated for 285 H.P. and he doesn't baby it at all.

I got a friend doing the same thing to his Fiero. Same Northstar V-8 and all.
One question, was this the 2.4 V-4? If so I find it humorous putting this motor in is a weight reduction of 500 lbs. or so, lol.

It was a 2.5L iron duke with a spun bearing. The guy who built this said the N* weighed just a little more than the 2.5
