Decided since you've seen my player, it was time I showed you my playing. Couldn't really think of anything else at the time to play, so I picked Kitten On The Keys. I learned this piece about 3-4 years ago, and haven't had the music since then, so this is all from memory; I know there are some bad sections. Novelty is not my strong point. My favorite part to play is the end section.

The piano action on my player is very difficult for me to play on, it's very "stiff". I've had the action graphited, and lubricated, but it still remains quite stiff. I've discovered that the instrument has all original damper springs which are somewhat corroded. The technician who came over said they were stronger than any that are being made now, which could explain the stiffness. I'm pretty sure it's not the hammer butt springs, but when I get around to replacing the damper springs, I'll likely have a look to see what shape they are in too, likely a bit corroded. Everything else the technician said looked absolutely great.

If I can find the music again, I would like to do a better take, but for now here ya go.

Erik

  • You play clean and smooth and I like your player piano.

The player pianos I see nowadays are the digital ones.

First time for me to see this mechanical type.

    It probably cost a fortune.

It seems, it's hardly manufactured nowadays.

    Hi,

Thank you for the very nice compliments.

In fact, you can still find lots of quality player pianos for sale on craigslist or eBay, including Aeolian players. I would recommend having a technician do an inspection on any player instrument before making a purchase, in order to tell if there are serious issues. My instrument was mfd. in 1912, & no longer produced.

Keep searching YouTube, lots of good vids including rare Orchestrions & Nickelodeons.

That would be interesting, but having my piano tuned up even take some time because of financial challenge.
