This is a RARE recording of FOLEY playing Bass on MARVIN GAYE's "What's Goin On" with the
original recording session. Actor JAMES GANDOLFINIi is producing a bio-pic on the Life of MARVIN GAYE & hired FOLEY's longtime friend & award winning engineer , songwriter JIM TULLIO
to mix songs for the film...as fate would have it....while listening to playback...FOLEY asked if HE could take a "Pass" at legendary Bassist JAMES JAMERSON's work. ONE TAKE...ONE PASS...FOLEY does it with 100% Accuracy. It was 25 yrs. ago tonite that MARVIN GAYE was taken away from this planet.

  • is this the Foley from Miles Davis?

  • Yes sir, the one & only !

  • where is this alternate version from?

  • Hello, Michael !

Well, it's actually the Original Session !

FOLEY was just blessed to be in the right place @ the Right time! He was playing to the actual tracks ( seperated ) from MARVIN GAYE's landmark recording.

  • Foley is playing that thing like its a toy!!!!!!!

  • If that sound is coming out of the camera mic that room must sound amazing! Of course the playing is exactly what any jamerson fan wants too!

  • @atl2maryland Jamerson is a hero to almost all post 1960s bassists, and anyone who plays a rhythm section instrument.

  • his left pinkie's fingernail has more talent than my whole being

  • lol "Yeah...I kinda remember that joint." oh Foley...you so crazy

  • He plays with every fiber of his being true "Soul"!!!

  • @holygroove2 not just Motown but most 50's 60's and 70's Soul RnB Funk has alot of instrumentalism to learn from. But yea James Jamerson is a big guy because hes on most of those Motown tracks we listen to.

  • Something about these bassists that eludes me (not Foley), but ALL bassists go back to Motown and etc. Jaco was influenced by them. I gotta go research these cats b/c EVERYBODY that transcribes these bass lines plays better.

  • Awesome player! Perfect match! Foley you are one talented man.

  • I love Marvin, I love Stevie, I love Prince and I love P-Funk, but what I do prefer,

most of all, is Foley's "Smart Alec" music. Wiz Lov, Juan from Paris.
