Ameliorator (2010)
Styrofoam, resin, laquer, negative ion generator, fan and light.
Abiding a bout of melancholy, I was zealously determined to return to
my usual sanguine state of being. Aware that the only person able to
ameliorate my frame of mind was myself, I began to work on a
sculpture. Drawing inspiration from a variety of disparate places,
from the positive vibes of a negative ion generator to the sensation
of riding a pony to the uplifting effects of bright light therapy to
Freud's belief in the transcendental power of Oriental rugs—I
attempted to create a sculpture that would make myself feel better.
