The November 5, 2006 episode of West Wing featured a stunning debate, aired live, between Democrat Max Santos [Jimmy Smits] and Republican Arnold Vinnick [Alan Alda]. This clip is Santos, summing up the problem of a one-item agenda

  • Where did I see that one-frame comic that showed the evolution of Republicans from apes to humans falling off a cliff? Every specimen had a speech bubble that said "Tax cuts!" including the one falling off the cliff.

  • Where can I find this debate unedited? This was a great, great, piece of television. Oh, that we would have had a choice between Santos and Vinick. Instead, we got Obama/McCain.

  • Interesting factoid about the episode this clip is from: The episode was filmed and aired live, as though it were a real debate. The camera lenses and films were changed to a live TV configuration, which is why the coloring and the aspect ratio are so different. Its also why you hear the actors screw up words. There are no second takes. A brilliant idea, really.
