Oh my, how things change! This video examines Cristina Yang's marriage proposals, and they couldn't be more different!
S3, Ep 13: After weeks of not speaking to each other due to "tremor-gate," Cristina caves and talks first, despite the fact that she was NOT wrong. This propels Burke to propose. (The words "you win" are a big turn on for him, as they are for most men ;)
S3, Ep 14: In the first scene, it has been over a week, and Burke's proposal is still "under advisement," even though a ring has been added to sweeten the deal. Cristina suspects Burke is trying to coerce her into answering by withholding surgery.
Later, after a chat with Ellis Grey in which Mer's lucid-for-a-day mom confesses that her marriage to Thatcher failed because she "didn't try hard enough," Cristina returns the ring, then accepts the proposal. with a few caveats. Hugging ensues. (During her acceptance speech Cristina says "Don't expect me to suddenly change." It may not have all been sudden, but, boy has she changed. . .)
S7, Ep 1: In the days following a mass murder at the hospital, Owen shows up at the apartment later than expected. Perhaps he was delayed whilst ring shopping, because we soon discover he is packin' ice. Cristina is hyperventilating due to his late arrival and confesses she does not want to be alone. He says he'll stay forever if she'll let him and produces the ring. She grabs it as if it were a life preserver and thanks him. Hugging ensues. (OK, so Cristina is clearly not her old self when Owen proposes, but I would feel much worse about it if we didn't have the scene from last season where Owen asks her to move in with him. She accepted right away with no hesitation. . .)
I'm so glad Cristina and Owen are together because I can really see them being together forever, but Burke definately broke Cristina in for Owen. I can't see Cristina being as open and dependant on Owen without going through what she did with Burke.

@02vanilla I think you are absolutely right. I think Cristina and Owen are soulmates and that they clicked more natually than Cristina and Burke (which I think is evidenced by the comparison videos), but that doesn't mean her relationship with Burke was pointless or worthless. It really did help her grow into who she is- even if it was through some pain. She made misakes in that relationship and learned from them. Thanks for the comment!!

I love Owen's proposal. Plus, if we all remember that it took Crisitna a week to final yes to marry Burke. But, with Owen falling in love with the woman that Cristina is and for risking his life to save her. She didn't need must time to say yes to him.

@caseycscooby The same thing happened with living together- with Owen she said yes right away. With Burke she didn't answer and lied to him about keeping her apartment.
