Welcome to this Skills for Care and Development resource for employers and commissioners in the social care, children, early years and young people's sector. Over the last two years our partnership has been acutely aware of the increasing numbers of employers looking to Europe and beyond to recruit individuals to work in the sector. We understand the recruitment and retention continues to be difficult in aspects of the sector with some parts of the sector reporting hard to fill vacancies as high as xx. Although there are now a range of recruitment initiatives established at a local and national level to support increasing recruits into the sector as well as well as long term initiatives by developing career pathways and initial entry into the sector through for example apprenticeships there continues in some parts of the UK to be a reliance on migrant workers. Indeed many of us may celebrate the role of migrant workers in helping us provide a service that supports the diversity of our service users, however we also know there can be challenges for employers in their employment. We need employer views if you have a need to recruit individuals from outside of Europe, this is to inform the Migration Advisory Committee and point based system.
