@wheelslarbac I direct you to consider that if you had no quality of life left, you'd want to die too. You obviously are conscious enough to enjoy your life, so of course no one would want you to die.

If I had no brain function left, I wouldn't want to live--I wouldn't want anything, because I wouldn't be capable of actual THOUGHT. As was the case with Terri.

You know, I would be inclined to agree--the real satire of this piece, though, is directed at those who want to keep people alive when they have no quality of life left. Joey's "lesson before dying" is that death is inevitable, so why fight it? Especially when your life is little more then a vegetative state.
