a ballad about the military industrial machine, USA's fear complex and consumer imperialism.

for those who have forgotten, "shock and awe" was the title given to the initial US bombing campaign of Baghdad in 2003. in that year alone, at least 29 eager entrepreneurs requested permission to use the term for marketing products, such as toys, hair care, and among other things, condoms.

people may also have forgotten by now that according to our past administration, the US accomplished its mission and won the war in Iraq way back in 2005.

respected studies indicate that the Iraqi civilian death toll likely exceeds 1 million now.

early this year tim juneman, one of my best childhood friends and neighbors, and Iraq War vet, committed suicide after being told he had been called to serve a second tour of Iraq. He is, according to current statistics, one among an average of 18 suicide attempts by US vets per day.

welllll..... the dreads were...getting pretty dreadful...

(naturally), and one morning i got an impulsive urge...and now they are on the farm's compost pile...

yeah, the candles worked well, along with an old heat lamp that i use for reading before i fall asleep :)...and because it gets really cold in there!
