"we all go a little mad sometimes"
"do you think i'm crazy?"

Please watch in 720p! :)

This isn't a crossover video, more like a side by side comparison of two characters with very similiar personalities. If you've never seen Psycho (what am I even saying, if you've never seen Psycho, go watch it NOW and then come back and watch this), Norman Bates is pretty much what I believe Ryan Murphy based Tate on.

He's a tormented young man, isolated and desperate for love. He has a vicious side, cruel and unrelenting, that is so different from his sweet, shy persona that one can only deduce he has a split personality. It all might stem from the issues he has with his mother, who may or may not have caused him to resort to violence to resolve his personal issues.

So yeah, Tate = Norman. Chad even said it.

This is getting into some Film major analysis so don't mind the introspection. I think that Ben's speech to Tate in 1x12 is almost a direct response to the psychiatric deduction at the end of Psycho. Because Ben basically says it's worthless, that there is no dual personality, no "mother half", and that the blame lies solely on the person who commits the acts, not their awful mothers. Personally I don't know which school of thought I'm for, but I thought it was a uniquely 21st century rebuttal to an argument from 1960.

Anyway, this is dedicated to Alex (Sparralex) because I don't know anyone who loves Norman Bates (and Tate Langon) as much as she does.

All the quotes:
"I like birds too"
"Cause they can fly away when things get too crazy"
"I think I must have one of those faces you just can't help believing"
"Now he was already dangerously disturbed"
"A psychopath by definition is incapable of remorse"
"There's something about all that blood. I drown in it"
"His mother was a clinging, demanding woman"
"So they can blame their crazy mothers for everything that went wrong"
"It's a filthy world we live in"
"We're all in our private traps. Clamped in them"
"It's a filthy, godamn helpless world"
"And none of us can ever get out"
"We scratch and claw but, we never budge an inch"
"I don't feel sad, I don't feel anything"

  • I have no real words for how trully amazing and brilliant this was. These two... just wow...

  • Brilliant...just fucking brilliant. It's a wonderful character analysis and comparison for both, and what I like most is you didn't give a lecture about the comparisons you let them speak for themselves. Awesome. Music is perfect too. :)

  • omfg. This is great. So great.

  • I feel like Tate could be Norman's son in this...I don't know why, but I really like it. Incredibly well done and creepy.
