Did your catheter have a needle at the end of it that went into your leg or was it just a tube??

sterile techniques and procedures both protects the patients and the healthcare worker..even more so the patient from airborne microbes..and possible microbes from the healthcare worker itself.. that's why they're wearing nitrile gloves and sterile masks.. removing a catheter like that by yourself is not really a good idea..but, hey.. you're doing fine.. so, just always be careful...

ya at the time i probably should have. Thats great to hear your 4 days out, it's all down hill from there. Each day should feel a little better and better. This clip was from my second ACL surgery, and looks like im gonna have to have a 3rd one sometime in the next couple of months. good luck with ur knee n do PT! (stem and ice does wonders)

How did it go a week or so after that. Did you end up with an infection or did everything go ok?

no, no infection. Removing a catheter like this there really is no chance of getting an infection. Inserting one however, yes requires a sterile technique.
When people wear gloves and other safety measures for removing catheters in the hospital, it is known as universal precautions and is to protect the healthcare worker (not the patient) from being exposed to patient's bodily fluids. Since it was my own, no harm no foul.

this is gruesome, i probably wouldn't have tried doing that myself
did it hurt pulling it out?

no it didn't hurt at all. I probably made it seem a lot worse than it was.
