wish he was still alive

@Voxnulla I see you must be 5-10 years older hahaha. But PPC isn't the way, x86-48 is the way, but that lasted only 2 monthes. AMD Athlons still use it.

@Justinba1010 I had a hard time when they switched to 68k. I was in Amiga territory back then and the only hope for Amiga, frankly, was Apple. Nobody talked about it, but everybody knew it. The fate of the 68K line was Apple and for Amiga to survive Apple has to invest into the 68060 and beyond line, which they did not.
Without the resources of apple Amiga could not made the switch proper to PPC, although many boards made it to market, It never got proper support.

@Voxnulla I can't disagree, but I like:
x86 < PPC
Intel < AMD
I really can't say anything, you knocked the fuck out of me lol, I just demise the move.

@Voxnulla couldN'T......

@Justinba1010 I would have liked the PPC line to have been continued. I still have several PPC machines around the house doing good work. My faster Intel machines are, well, faster, but they sometimes lack a certain... intelligence or anticipations that I got used to with PPC.
I still think that the switch made sense in both output ability and more predictable speed increases. Both of which a small starter company like P.A., even by being taken over by apple, could guarantee.

@Voxnulla Well P.A. Semiconductor got a 2.1Ghz G5 dual core into a laptop using 14w. Core 2 Duo uses 10-11w(not a idle either of them). At idle C2D beats it with ease 3-4w. I mean by cutting stuff out I can get any IS onto any chip and get it into a laptop, but which one is going to run better?
-
@Mishkafofer The AMD Phenom wafer has nearly 1300 processors, I think the Core 2 duo has 1132. Remember the NorthBridge Southbridge etc has to be added and a heatsink.
-
@Justinba1010 You'd first have to be able to get that package into consumer and prosumer notebooks. It was pretty clear that IBM has no real interest in pursuing that line of development. I mean We never even get to see a low end G5 laptop. My G5 is air cooled, but the later models had to be fluid cooled to keep up with demand. The power architecture is superior probably to anything Intel or AMD has to offer, but it's not sustainable as a product in apple's range alas. Blame IBM.

@dogzer You typed that to get thumbs up eh?
He is holding a waffer. CPU are "printed" on this waffer and than cut. If you drop one, you are fired.
