A line from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon... "I am Elmer J. Fudd. A millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht." That was the only information (other than my name and e-mail) that Facebook ever got before I closed my account after only one month. Facebook is a silly and useless waste of time. Get a hobby, take up jogging, read a book. Anything you do will be more meaningful than wasting time on that inane site.

can the hackers steal your email too????
Lots of my friends have a facebook account. I'm trying to sell the idea to my parents. What information would you say is unsafe to post on my account if i get one. and should i use my real name?

Personally, I'd withhold your home address and any phone numbers you have. You can't help but have to give your e-mail address, but that's still an on-line only contact method. So just don't give any information that will let people contact you "IRL".

Just as I've said to other comments; just don't put your real life address or phone number on Facebook. Place a minimum amount of personal information about yourself on your profile. That way you can still enjoy using the site, but there's nothing valuable for malicious apps to get a hold of.

I want to start facebook but im holding back because you need to put your last name in it too. but the thing is that my last AND first name is unique.

Well, there's nothing stopping you using a false name!
