This video is based on my Thunderblog, 'The Numbers Game - From Cosmology to the Credit Crunch.'

It is a critical examination of the current dominant role of mathematics in science in general, and cosmology in particular. I argue that mathematics should be the slave of science, rather than the master that it now is. How did this situation come about, and is there any reason to be suspicious of the strong emphasis on mathematics which we now witness? Indeed, do mathematical truths equate to scientific truths?

Wal Thornhill discusses the work of the mathematician, Stephen J. Crothers, in his article, The Black Hole at the Heart of Astronomy, here. http://www.holoscience.com/news.php?article=7qqsr17q

  • Good to see you believe in rational physics and rational economics. Economics is also currently ruled by and corrupted by mathematics.

  • @Esoparagon Yes, I drew this analogy at the end of the video, in the hope that it would ring true with the average Joe. Most people think that cosmology is of no importance to their lives. Thanks. Soup

  • Another great video.

Many scientific theories would loose credibility if the average person knew how many mathematical assumptions our "physical laws" are built upon.

  • The point is that it is not always right, and that we should start with science, not math. Black Holes remain matematical speculations!

  • @aagetreffen no just 1.5 billion

  • @superdog797 If you think the world speak English you need to get out more.

  • @aagetreffen I agree. Many Americans don't care about other languages, but that's partially because the world speaks English.

My balls itch by the way.

  • @superdog797 I don’t expect the world to speak my shitty language either so I have learned several different ones. But you are right, preferences is no excuse not to improve one’s skills.

  • @aagetreffen More people elect to learn English voluntarily than elect to learn your tongue, which I presume is Norwegian. Anyways, hopefully you won't misspell lose anymore, not that it's a big deal.

  • @superdog797 Mr English I am sure I would have noticed it if I used your shitty language as much as I use the other languages. It will probably keep me up at night that people living inside a small English bubble find me unworthy...

  • @aagetreffen Many people's youtube comments would gain credibility if they could spell the word "lose" properly.
