Germaine Dulac fue con Artaud, Buñuel y Man Ray, algunos de los artistas que exploraron el subsconciente freudiano surrealista en cintas cinematograficas con metaforas poéticas bretonianas , crítica social marxista y belleza plástica clarobscura heredada del expresionismo, en un París vanguardista.
