A woman's weight has a clear impact on how well the European version of Plan B emergency contraception works to prevent pregnancy, according to research by French manufacturer HRA Pharma. The research shows that Norlevo (marketed as Plan B in the US) is not effective for women who weigh more than 176 lbs., and that the drug begins to lose effectiveness at 165 lbs. The average American woman weighs 166 lbs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. RT's Ameera David looks into what steps the Food and Drug Administration may take, including issuing warning labels like the ones that will be on the European version of the drug starting next year.
